Virtual Book Tour: Caroline Smailes
Font’s first Virtual Book Tour launches next weekend, Sunday 6th April. We’re really excited about this new venture as we think it’s a fantastic way for readers and writers to make connections with each other.
Our first step out will be with Lovers’ Hollow, taking the book to readers who are not aware of it, in advance of the September publication of A Dance in Time. As it’s our first VBT, we expect teething problems and we thought it best that we’d experience them on Orna’s book instead of one of yours!
For example, yesterday we have just found out that some blogger/writers don’t like blog tours — which very much took us by surprise, as it is such a great way of getting readers and writers in touch with each other. But of course most do and we are already making new and deep contacts within the online writing and reading community.
Caroline Smailes, a gifted UK author, is kicking off the tour on Sunday at 12 noon, offering “live chat” — with Orna answering questions about whatever people want to ask. Caroline, who is currently reading Lovers’ Hollow, has a very loyal following, all interested in the processes of writing and publishing, so we expect the chat to cover some topics around that — but who knows where it will go!
If you’re free on Sunday between 12 and 4, do drop by to http://www.insearchofadam.blogspot.com/
We’ll give more information about the tour later in the week but today we’d just like to tell you a little more about Caroline. Not only is she a fantastic writer (just look at these reviews for her book In Search of Adam), that she’s also a fantastic person is made clear in her handling of the response to her book. In Search of Adam explores themes of sexual abuse and self-harm and this has prompted many people to contact her, to tell her of their own experiences.
Wanting to help, Caroline has put together a novella, Disraeli Avenue, and published it as an ebook, asking only for donations to the charity ‘One in Four’ in return. The charity offers unconditional support for people who have experienced sexual abuse and sexual violence and as a small organization, desperately needs funds to continue its work.
Disraeli Avenue can be downloaded from: www.thefridayproject.co.uk/disraeliavenue
or

Every donation will make a direct difference. So, please donate — any amount, large or small.
And drop by Caroline’s website on Sunday April 6th to join in the discussion with these two interesting writers.
See you there!

Sister/Fellow Bloggers:
We know lots of our readers have blogs and of course we’d be delighted if you wanted to take part in this tour or any of our forthcoming tours. Our next will feature Paul Kilduff, author of Ruinair, which is currently dominating the Irish nonfiction charts.
There are lots of ways you could take part:
* You could read the book and post a review.
* You could give a synopisis of the book and the author, with some prepared Questions & Answers (we provide all materials, see below)
* Readers of your blog could be invited online at a pre-arranged time to chat with Orna about Lovers Hollow (and/or the upcoming A Dance in Time) or about any aspect of writing and publishing. She will make herself available to take all your questions and comments, or those of your readers, for as long as you wish at an agreed time.
* You could use the opportunity to engage with any of the many subjects/themes covered by the book — from the Irish Civil war in the 1920s to gay life in San Francisco in the 1980s.
* Orna could appear as guest blogger on your site to discuss a pre-agreed topic that you think might be of interest to your readers.
We send you all the materials you need — a synopsis of the book; a book review, summary of the press reviews (unanimously favourable); an author biography; a previously conducted Q&A interview with the author or anything else you feel you need to make it a good experience for your readers.
If you wish to be more fully involved, that’s fine too. We welcome any host who prepares their own interview questions or would like to feature their personal review of the book while it’s being toured.
It’s your call.
Let us know if you would be interested in taking part.
