Font Blog Carnival: Writing & Publishing Advice

Hello and welcome to the March 1, 2008 edition of the Font Blog Carnival.

For the past weeks, we’ve been accepting submissions of blog posts related to writing or publishing and here we offer a selection of the best.

GET IT WRITTEN

Articles are a great starting point for first-time writers.  Kenton Newby presents 10 Ways Article Writing Can Stack the Deck in Your Favor posted at KentonNewby.com.

*

Research is a foundation of almost all writing.  Rebecca Suzanne Dean presents a post on speed reading in How To Research 5 Times Faster posted at Rebecca Dean.

*

For travel writers, Michael@TSM presents Travel Writing Contest! Win $150 Cash Prize | Traveling Stories Magazine posted at Traveling Stories Magazine.

*

Alexander Kohl presents Writing Jobs posted at Freelance Writing Career.

*

Amy Munnell tackles the vexed issue of author copyright in a digital age in Things that make you go “Hmmmm”….. posted at 3 Questions…and Answers and considers the phenomenon of “flash fiction” in Short Stuff…Say A Lot With A Little posted at 3 Questions…and Answers.   The best thing about this post is the useful links.

*

Kingsley Tagbo presents How to Overcome Procrastination in 8 Easy Steps: The Fastest Way to Learn Technical Skills or Get a Job posted at HOW TO LEARN COMPUTER PROGRAMMING FAST OR GET A JOB EASILY.  Not strictly for writers it’s a good article on a subject we writers know all about: procrastination.

Looking for a college writing course?  Neelakantha presents 50+ Open Courseware Writing Classes from the World’s Leading Universities - College Degree.com posted at college degree.

GET IT PUBLISHED

We were disappointed to receive so few submissions on publishing, aside from some disappointing posts and this one about self publishing.  Self-publishing is to be entered into with caution — if you are going to do it properly, it is no easy shortcut - but for some writers, some of the time, it can be a very valuable option.  A host of writers we love here at Font Towers self-published at various stages of their careers — including such luminaries as Virginia Woolf and James Joyce.

Blue skelton presents a useful post on Book Production Sites for Self Publishing posted at Blue Skelton Publications, saying, “Here are some of the best book production websites that I have found if you would like to self publish your media. As a service to you, I have taken the time to look up each service on the Better Business Bureau and I have provided links to the results. There are a lot of scams out there and you have to be careful when you are self publishing.”

GET IT READ

ThursdayBram argues that all writers who want to widen their audience should have a blog or website and he presents 7 Items Your Website Should Include at thursdaybram.com.  And Ian Richardson agrees (as do we) and if you’re not convinced, offers you Final Five Reasons to Host Your Own Blog. posted at Make Everything EzyAs123.  This is the last in a series and you’ll find reasons given earlier at the same address.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of Writing & Publishing Advice using Blog Carnival’s carnival submission form.

We are particularly keen to get good submissions on publishing.

Many thanks to all who took part.

This is 100% real. I’m so glad that internet has people, who write so wonderful, and who don’t lie online.
